Implant Supported Dentures

While traditional dentures slip in the mouth causing discomfort, pain, and embarrassment, implant supported dentures anchor dentures in place for a more comfortable fit that eliminates the need for messy adhesives and alleviates pain due to rubbing and shifting. When your dentures fit and feel better, you cannot help but smile more!

Advantages:

Traditional dentures are removable, requiring messy adhesives to stay in place and causing pain due to rubbing and poor fit. Implants inserted into the gum help to anchor the denture in place, and maintain the fit of your dentures, eliminating rubbing and sliding. And while traditional dentures actually accelerate the deterioration of important gum and bone tissue, dentures supported by dental implants stimulate the tissue in much the same way as natural teeth. This helps provide a sturdy, healthy foundation in the gum tissue for implants, which in turn provide a lasting system of support for the replacement of missing teeth.

There are two types of implant supported dentures:

Ball retained and bar-retained:

Ball retained dentures attach the denture to the implant using a ball and socket mechanism. Each implant is topped with a small steel ball and each denture is fitted with a socket. The sockets connect to the balls, anchoring the denture firmly in place to provide a comfortable, lasting fit.

Bar retained dentures anchor the dentures using three or more dental implants. A thin metal bar running the length of the gum line is attached to the implants. This bar helps to clip the dentures in place.

Both ball retained and bar-retained dentures offer their own advantages and disadvantages, but both types of dentures provide a more comfortable, stable fit than traditional removable dentures. The type of denture and implant used depends on your unique needs and goals.
